Archaeological investigations

Most archaeological investigations in Dalarna, about 20 every year, are due to various types of exploitation. The tools used range from diggers to excavators to small brushes. The relics revealed may also range from the end of the last Ice Age, about 9000 years ago, to the present century. They may be settlements dating from the Stone Age, the Iron Age, the Middle Ages, or the urban buildings of the 17th century. They may also be traces of hunting, metal production, or the remains of small blast furnaces. Prehistorical and Christian graves also, at times, bring us close to the ancient people of Dalarna. It is all documented and recorded to contribute new pieces to the jigsaw of understanding our history.
