| Local Costumes and Textiles
No Swedish province can boast such a large number of local, peasant costumes as Dalarna. Nowhere else has local dress been used so recently as here; in some places you might well have met women dressed in parts of the local costume as late as in the l970´s and 80´s. The local parish costume is still popularly worn on special occasions.
Most costumes displayed in the costume gallery come from the older costume-wearing areas, the Siljan area and western Dalarna, while the costumes originating in the present century are more sparsely represented. A few garments from the wardrobe of a young middle-class woman, sewn at the turn of the century, are also exhibited. The textiles room is a study with exhibits displayed on the walls, with literature and space available for research students wishing to study textiles stored in the museum.
