Folk music has occupied a special place in the activities of the museum ever since the start. This seems natural in a province so strongly associated with folk music and such well-known fiddlers as Gössa Anders, Hjort Anders and Leisme Per, to mention just a few. The folk music room, opened in 1976, was the first of its kind in Sweden. Here you will find a selection of the rich collection of recorded folk music stored in our library of recorded music, ranging from the music of the summer grazing settlements, folk songs to traditional fiddle music and other instruments. One of our ambitions at the museum is to penetrate below the surface of the glossy picture of folk culture often presented by the tourist industry to find its manyfaceted means of expression, its depth and extent.
